During the Green Building Basics course the fundamentals of green
building will be covered including sustainable site development,
energy efficiency, water efficiency, indoor air quality and sustainable
resource use. This course is meant for building industry professionals

NC Tradeshow: Building For A Sustainable Future:

AGENDA:
The NC Triangle Chapter of the US Green Building Council is pleased
to announce the 4th Annual GreenNC Tradeshow. This one day event
featuring over 60 exhibitors from across North Carolina will offer
anyone in the commercial building industry an excellent opportunity
to gather information about sustainable products and practices in
NC, learn about recent industry advances, and network with others
interested in greening commercial buildings. Sustainable building,
also known as green building or high performance building, strives
to reduce the natural resources used in the construction and operation
of building. This includes energy efficiency measures, thoughtful
design, use of healthy building materials, water use conservation,
and much more.
Who Should Attend?
Anyone involved with commercial or industrial buildings and interested
in making those buildings more sustainable. This includes architects,
engineers, facility managers, building owners, city planners, school
facility planners, students, and anyone else with an interest in
sustainable buildings.
To Attend:
Just come. The event is free and open from 9 AM to 5 PM and there
is no registration required. There is also a luncheon that requires
a $35 registration and will feature local leaders discussing their
sustainability efforts. Visit the website to register for the luncheon.

Building 101: HealthyBuilt Home Orientation Training
NC Arboretum: 100 Frederick Law Olmstead Way Asheville, NC 28806
AGENDA:
All interested homebuilders and building professionals are invited
to a half-day introduction to the NC HealthyBuilt Homes (HBH) Program,
a statewide green builder program for residential building professionals
administered by the WNC Green Building Council in partnership with
the NC Solar Center.
You will learn the benefits, building guidelines and process for
you to be a participant in the NC HBH Program. The NC HBH Program
provides visibility and certification of homes for residential builders
who practice sustainable, high performance building practices. The
program also provides third party assistance in learning about and
marketing HealthyBuilt Homes.
This event is required orientation to the NC HBH program for all
builders who wish to build NC HealthyBuilt Homes.

Building 201: Insulation Products and Techniques

The insulation system plays a vital role in the thermal comfort
and energy efficiency of a home's building envelope. This class
will first address current construction methods and the insulation
options available for both new and existing homes. Other insulating
methods will also be addressed including insulated concrete forms,
structural insulated panels, pre-cast concrete and more. Costs,
the building code and sustainable options will all be considered
as this class explores the thermal barrier of a home.

Building 201: Healthy Crawlspaces

AGENDA:
For centuries crawlspaces have had negative effects on the indoor
air quality, energy efficiency and structures of our homes. Mold,
fungus, moisture and radon gas may be present in a crawl space.
These poisons can get into the conditioned envelope and therefore
into the air you breathe, and have been directly linked to allergies,
sinusitis and other health issues. This class addresses the issues
present with current crawlspaces, the building science behind the
correct methods of construction and the code requirements for sealing,
insulating and controlling humidity.
COST: $30 for
