Elective
Courses
Besides
the two special core courses offered by the Asheville Board of REALTORS®,
you can choose from a number of very interesting and useful electives.
REMEMBER!
You are responsible to track your own elective courses. Be sure
you have a copy of your certificate of completion and send a copy
to ABR to receive your credit.
The
Western North Carolina Green Building
Council often offers 4-hour courses that qualify for ECO-credit.
Check their website to see what topics are coming up that interest
you. Each course is usually worth 4-credit hours.
Warren
Wilson College offers a number of environmental classes that
qualify for credit.
The
Cradle
of Forestry sometimes offers a short course on Woodland
Ownership.
The
local NC State Extension Office offers a helpful course on Home
Maintenance.
The
REALTORS®
Land Institute's Land 101 course is an elective.
There
is an 8-hour HUD certified course in Lead-Safe Work Practices
that qualifies for 4 credits.
NC
State University offers a Conservation-Based Development
Workshop.
The
Carolina Mountain Land
Conservancy offers Financial Strategies for Landowners:
Advanced Seminar on Conservation Easements, Tax and Estate Planning.
RiverLink
has a course on Sediment and Erosion Control/Stormwater.
Other environmental courses and seminars that are offered
for professional credit for architects and engineers may count for
ECO credit.
Relevant
college level courses you have taken and achieved a grade
of B or better may count for credit. Show ABR a copy of your transcripts.
You
get one credit for one hour of elective course time, up to a maximum
of four credits a day. So, if you take a three hour course, you'll
get three credits. If you take a one-day course that lasts six hours,
you'll get four credits. If you take a twelve hour elective that
lasts two days, you'll get eight credits. The reason for this is
to encourage you to take a variety of courses and not to get all
your elective credits in the same area.
If
you know of a course or seminar coming up that may qualify that
isn't on our calendar, let us know about it as soon as possible
so we can include.
