How
do you become
an ECO-Agent?
Are
you a licensed REALTOR®? Are you interested in and committed
to sustainable design, building and development? Then you need to
become a certified ECO-Agent.
The
Asheville Board of REALTORS®, together with a number of local
organizations and businesses, have created a training program to
give you what you need to provide special environmental services
to your clients.
The
program consists of 36 credit-hours of classes or a combination
of classes and alternative credits. Twenty of the credits must come
from the core courses. There are two of them and they cover the
the basics of relevant inside and outside environmental issues.
Issues
vary from one region of the country to another, so it is especially
helpful that these courses are led by local people. The instructors
are environmental professionals invarious fields who work with local
organizations or businesses.
Check
the Core Courses page on this site
for more information and the Calendar
to find out when they will be offered next. You can also contact
Corean Hamlin at the Asheville
Board of REALTORS® for more information or any member of the
ECO-Board. See the Agent Directory
for contact info.
The
other sixteen credit-hours can come from a choice of elective courses
and possibly from alternative sources. Learn more at Electives
and Alternative credit. Electives
courses to choose from are many and offered often.
You
need to keep track of the classes you take and provide the Board
with certificates of completion or receipts to obtain credit. Always
check in advance to be sure you can get credit for an elective,
if there's any question.
You
can't get the certification overnight, but you'll appreciate all
you learn and meet lots of great people in your classes!
